At Graphic Electronics Services Ltd, we have vehicles that are designated to neutral faults that are equipped with replacement items and spares which enable us to complete a high percentage of repairs on site at first visit. Great care is taken of the customer’s needs as standard practice.
Vulnerable and Elderly People
Vulnerable and elderly customers do not understand what a neutral fault entails and why it’s happened. Graphic Electronics Services Ltd spends time explaining to the customers that we are there to assess the situation and carry out work accordingly which helps to alleviate their anxiety. There might not be any items in the property that have failed as a result of the neutral fault, but a visual inspection also helps to relax an elderly customer.
Should the fault occur at night and a customer is dependent on heating, the following procedures are implemented.
If the central heating boiler is faulty, the gas engineer will investigate the damage caused. In most cases we can bypass the fault and leave the customer with a safe but temporary repair until the next day when parts will be collected from the supplier and replaced.
If the boiler has a major fault and cannot be repaired, we check that the customer has other means of heating i.e. gas fire and or heaters. If appropriate, we will leave portable heaters. When we are happy that the customer is safe and warm for the night, we move on to the next customer.
If Graphic Electronics Services Ltd cannot get a boiler working and the customer is aged and vulnerable or the family have small children/baby and without adequate and insufficient heating, we will determine the best course of action to be taken i.e. transport the customers to a relative if nearby or a hotel for the night.
Two of the vans that we use for neutral faults are also used as hospitality vans and have an on-board supply of hot water for making tea, coffee etc. and a microwave for heating meals if required. They also have on-board portable generators and heaters for customers.
Some customers have medical needs and have medicine that needs to be temperature controlled such as insulin. If the customer’s fridge is faulty, we will offer the on-board fridge to store the medicine with a special designed medicine bag that can be sealed and is tamper proof.
